LEADERSHIP
LINCOLN DAY IN LINCOLN COUNTY SCHOOLS

By
Jon Mayhew LINCOLNTON
Members of Leadership Lincoln, a program
intended to strengthen participants
leadership skills while learning about
the community, went back to school
Wednesday.
According to Belinda Branson, Lincoln
County Schools special projects
coordinator, the 15-member group spent
the day learning about learning.
The group started out with a
presentation by a panel of leaders from
the school system including assistant
superintendent of business affairs Steve
Zickafoose and assistant superintendent
of curriculum Dr. Sherry Hoyle,
said Branson. The discussion
centered around budget affairs and
curriculum opportunities facing the
schools.
Hosts for the group were Dr. David
Martin, LCS superintendent, and Byron
Sackett, operating partner for
Lincolntons Fatz Café. Fatz Café
is the sponsor of the monthly Lincolnton
Police Officer of the Month award on The
Carolina Scoop.
The program also included a road trip to
Battleground Elementary School, where
participants read to the students.
Participants also got exposure to new
technologies at North Lincoln Middle
School in Pumpkin Center, where they got
to see the use of interactive boards in
the classrooms.
The day ended at Gaston College, where
participants learned about the workings
of the college.
Leadership Lincoln is a program sponsored
by the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber
of Commerce, which enables future
community leaders to develop skills and
nurture bonds. Through the program,
leadership skills are strengthened while
participants learn the social, economic
and political dynamics of the community.
Branson said the class meets once a month
and each month the class focuses on
different aspects of the community such
as government and politics, industry,
economic development and strategic
planning.
