NEWTON - William "Lawrence" Cline, age 73, of Newton passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 at his residence. Born March 13, 1936 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Helen Cline Marlowe. Mr. Cline worked for Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet, a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden. In addition to his mother, his grandparents, Stamey and Beulah Mae Cline, preceded him in death.

He is survived by: Wife: Shirley M. Cline of the home

Son: Sherman L. Cline of Newton

Daughter: Tanya G. Stinson and husband Wesley of Newton

Step Son: Jimmy Phillips of Conover

Step Daughter: Becky Beam and husband Johnny of Iron Station

Adopted Daughter: Lori Triplett of Conover

5 Grandchildren: Sarah Bishop and husband Jason of Newton, Daniel Cline of Hickory, Leighton Cline of Hickory, Brandon Gentry of Newton, and Shane Gentry of Newton

3 Step Grand Children: Chad Huffman, Jason Huffman and Billy Jean Thornsberry, all of Iron Station

Half Brother: Steve Marlowe A tremendous amount of extended Family and Friends

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Rev. Pat Purdy officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church Cemetery in Maiden.

The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 2:00-3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
