Teen discovers police serious about school zone crackdown

By Jon Mayhew
Lincolnton Police Officer Kameron Keener recently told The Carolina Scoop police were going to crackdown on motorists not obeying them or the speed limit within the Lincolnton High School zone on North Aspen Street.

And he wasn't kidding, as a 16-year-old Freshman learned the hard way Wednesday just after 3pm.

Keener was directing traffic on North Aspen Street near Skip Lawing Road when Joshua Franklin White, 16, Lakeland Avenue, Lincolnton, drove up on the officer.

“He drove around me while I was trying to stop all oncoming traffic,” said Keener. “He didn't have permission to go.”

Keener cited the teenager, who will have to be out of school to make his court date on September 17.

The officer told “The Scoop” in an article earlier this week that several complaints have led to a crackdown in the school zone in front of Lincolnton High School as well as Battleground Elementary School.

Keener said the speed limit in the school zones are 25 miles-per-hour from 7:30-8:30am and 2:30-3:30pm.
