Arrest Made in Assault of Homeless Man

NEWTON -- Jarvis Ledon
McCullough was arrested at 6:55 pm on Monday the
14th by Sgt. Tim Hayes and charged with 1 felony
count of Assault with Deadly Weapon inflicting
serious injury, 1 felony count of 1st degree
kidnapping, and 2 felony counts of 1st degree
sexual offense.
McCullough is the final of three suspects in the
case. Tommy Junior Henry and Johnny Deon
Abernathy were arrested last week. Their next
court appearance is August 1.
McCullough was a linebacker at Bandy's High
School and Henry was an all conference running
back at Maiden High School.
The victim is a homeless white male who had been
staying with residents at a home on McDaniels
Circle.
The victim was beaten then restarined and
assaulted further. He was also burned with a
cigarette lighter and sodomy was attempted.
Detective Hayes has been conferringwith the FBI
and the US Attorney's Office in reference to the
possibility of Hate Crime issues.
McCullough was placed under a secured bond of
$50,000. His next court appearance is August 6,
2008.
