PUMPKIN
CENTER -- Pumpkin Center, North
321 and Boger City Fire Departments
responded to a three-alarm fire Tuesday
afternoon at a residence in the 1500
block of Ivey Church Road.
Firefighters arrived
on the scene to find smoke and flames
coming from the attic area of the
residence. The occupants inside managed
to get out of the house.
One of the residents
told authorities he sensed something
wasn't right in the kitchen and found two
pots on the stove on fire. Instinctively,
he grabbed the blazing pots on the stove
and threw them out the back door.
The resident refused
treatment from Lincoln EMS. Firefighters
couldn't estimate the damage to the
residence.
Food left on the
stove is the second leading cause of
housefires in the United States;
discarded smoking materials is the
primary cause of housefires.
