LINCOLNTON
-- Lincolnton Police are
asking for the public's help in
looking for a woman wanted in an
identity theft case.
According to Detective Dennis
Harris, authorities are looking
for Inez Mauney.
Harris said Mauney gained the
trust of an elderly woman, who
gave Mauney an ATM card.
According to Harris, Mauney and
Jeffrey Scott Blauvelt, both of
1845 Bill Lynch Road, Lincolnton,
withdrew more than $1,200 from
the woman's bank account over an
unspecified period of time.
"Mostly, it was in $20
increments," said Harris.
A break in the case came when
Detective Chuck McGinley spotted
Blauvelt walking down the street
near the 100 block of East
Congress Street. Blauvelt was
charged with 20 felony counts of
financial identity theft and one
felony count of conspiracy to
commit financial identity theft.
He was taken to the Harven A.
Crouse Detention Center under a
$50,000 secured bond.
As of Monday night, Mauney was
still at large.
Harris hopes someone will see her
photo and can provide him with
intormation on where she is
located. Call Lincolnton Police
at 704-736-8900 or Crimestoppers
of Lincolnton/Lincoln County Inc.
at 704-736-8909. Callers to
Crimestoppers do not have to
reveal their identity and may be
eligible for a cash reward of up
to $1,000 for a tip that leads to
an arrest.
Harris said this case is
especially heartbreaking since
the victim is in her late 60s.
"This elderly lady opened
her home to Mauney," said
Harris. "Mauney illegally
obtained and used her ATM
card."
