Highway 16 Interchanges
From James "Bo" Moore, Transportation Committee Chair

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Transportation Committee continues discussion on the Highway 16 interchanges. Bo Moore recently spoke with Mike Holder, Division Engineer, North Carolina Department of Transportation, Judge Robert Collier, State North Carolina Department of Transportation Board Member and future State Representative Johnathn Rhyne on the planned Highway 16 interchanges.

Mike Holder informed Bo that the North Carolina Department of Transportation would only install traffic signals where they are warranted and not just at peak hours of the day. Mike informed Bo that he has ordered new traffic studies at the interchanges to be done during September or October. These dates were chosen due to school being back in session and they will get a more accurate traffic count. Once these studies are completed Mike will make a final recommendation.

Bo spoke with Judge Collier and informed him of our concerns for the planned interchanges. Judge Collier told Bo that he would be happy to meet with us and community leaders on what they feel is needed. He would listen to those in attendance on how future growth and planning will affect these interchanges.

Future State Representative, Johnathan Rhyne, informed Bo that he plans to discuss those interchanges with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and then meet with the Transportation Committee.

These interchanges will be on many Board agendas in August. After receiving their input a meeting with organization leaders will be planned.

Please be aware that our concerns will not delay the bidding on the Highway 16 project scheduled for of August 19, 2008. Theses interchanges can be altered after that date.

Thank you to the many groups and news media for your help and input. We welcome your comments.

Respectively,

James "Bo" Moore
Chair, Transportation Committee
Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce
