LINCOLNTON
-- The driver who hit a residence on
Huss Street Thursday afternoon has been
identified in a Lincolnton Police Department
accident report.
Officer T. Potts
identified the driver of a Geo Metro as Antonio
Velazquez, 38, of 2305 Arney Street.
Potts indicate
Velazquez was traveling south on Huss Street
around 1:10 p.m. when he crossed the center line,
traveling nearly 80 feet off the roadway before
striking a porch at 202 Huss Street.
Velazquez's
vehicle was crushed by the impact; authorities
said there weren't any skid marks prior to
impact.
Authorities at
the scene indicated speed may have been a factor
in the accident, that blocked Huss Street at
Arney Street for more than an hour.
Authorities
aren't sure if Velazquez had some sort of medical
condition or he just wasn't paying attention and
missed the curve.
One neighbor
said she was inside her residence when she heard
the crash.
"It sounded
like an explosion," she said.
Nobody was
living in the residence, as it was being
renovated by the landlord. Building inspectors
quickly arrived on the scene and determined the
foundation of the house didn't sustain any
damage.
The
investigation into the accident is continuing.
