HOUSE BEING MOVED
FROM MECKLENBURG TO LINCOLN
By Jon Mayhew
Publisher
DENVER If you thought you saw
a house moving down the road in east Lincoln
while on the way to church, then youre
not seeing things. And the house moving this
morning may have affected your commute to
church.
Around 7:15 a.m., Lincoln County
Communications notified emergency service
workers and law enforcement of the plans to
move a 35-foot-wide house from Highway 73 in
Mecklenburg County to Webbs Road in Lincoln
County.
The house move started on Highway 73 in
Mecklenbury County. The movers turned the
house right onto Pilot Knob Road, then merged
onto Highway 16. There was a final right turn
onto Webbs Road and the move was concluded.
The move was expected to end around 10 a.m.
Traffic detours were expected since the house
and moving vehicles will take up the entire
road. The North Carolina Highway Patrol
assisted with the move.
According to North Carolina Highway Patrol
trooper S.L. Murdock, the move was completed
around 9:15 a.m. Sunday. He said a developer
moved the house to Mulberry Lane off Webbs
Road.
"He's probably going to remodel the
house then sell it," said Murdock,
adding moving the 35 foot-wide by 86-foot
long house went smoothly. The house was
1,500-1,600 square feet, according to
Murdock.
There was one point traffic had to be
stopped, however.
"It was where Highway 16 turns into a
two-lane road, from there to Webbs
Road," said Murdock. "Much of the
roads were three lanes, so traffic wasn't a
problem. We could let them move around."
