LINCOLN
COUNTY -- It's the burning
question of the day for members of the
Lincoln County Communications Center as
well as The Carolina Scoop.
"Why
are helicopters flying over
Lincolnton?"
The
Carolina Scoop first learned about the
helicopters from reader Kristie McBride,
who asked the same question.
Comm
Center assistant director Janine
Henderson said some of the helicopters
sounded like they were about to land on
the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
According
to Comm Center director Bill Hoover,
every three or four years the helicopters
are used for mapping purposes.
"The
county is divided off into grids, and the
helicopters are flying overhead, taking
pictures of property for the tax
office," said Hoover.
The
helicopters started flying on Jan. 20 and
the photographing of property will
continue through March.
