VALE - J. Harold Matthews entered the church triumphant early on the morning of June 10, 2009. A loving husband of fifty-three years, an exceptional father and grandfather, and tireless worker, his life will be celebrated and missed. Mr. Matthews lived his life in Christ, faithfully serving until the end.

Mr. Matthews was the son of the late Lester and Ida Matthews. He was preceeded in death by his brothers, James, Carl and Glenn Matthews. He is survived by his wife Nellie Davis Matthews of the home, his daughter Pam Brendle and her husband Mickey, his son Tony and daughter-in-law Tanya, three grandchildren, Bradley and Shasta Brendle, Suzanne Matthews, one great-grandson Cameron Brendle, sisters Virginia Leonhardt, Lunette Deal and Eunice Fisher.

The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston on Thursday, June 11th from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 3 pm at Macedonia United Methodist Church, Vale, NC. Rev. Harry Andrews and Floyd Wood officiating. Memorials may be made to Macedonia UMC c/o Claude Bivens, 3240 Lynn Mountain Road, Vale, NC 28168.
