Man threatens teenage son with shotgun

Guy Buchanan

By Jon Mayhew
Police responding to a disturbance on the north side of the city Sunday just before 3pm encounter a man armed with a shotgun and learn the man threatened his 16-year-old son with the weapon.

Guy Buchanan Jr., 54, 628 Riverside Drive was taken into custody at his residence. He was charged with communicating threats and given a $500 secured bond.

Officers found the suspect armed with a single shot 20-gauge shotgun in the front yard of the residence. The incident report said a verbal argument between an intoxicated Buchanan and his son led to the man retrieving the weapon.

Police said Buchanan then loaded the weapon in the front yard. When he found out his wife called police, he unloaded the weapon. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Buchanan will be in Lincoln County District Court on November 8.
