LINCOLNTON
-- Authorities arrested a
Lincoln Street man after he fired shots
in the air and pointed a rifle towards
people on Mauney Drive Thursday just
after 3 p.m.
The
incident started when the Lincoln County
Communications Center received several
calls about a black male in front of 122
Mauney Drive that was firing a gun.
When
officers arrived, witnesses said the
suspect -- identified as brandon James
Propst, 19. of Lincoln Street -- had ran
into the woods behind the apartment on
Mauney Drive.
While
police were looking for the suspect,
officers learned the suspect had made his
way back to the original location.
Witnesses
also told police Propst was armed with a
long-barrelled shotgun, which Propst
fired as the result of an argument.
Witnesses
said the suspect first fired shots into
the air, then pointed the rifle at a
group of people. He could be heard to say
"would you like some of this"
according to a Lincolnton Police
Department incident report.
The
witnesses then said Propst dropped the
gun, grabbing a machete.
Propst
was arrested by officer Spencer Summers
and Lt. Randy Willis and charged with
being armed to the terror of the public;
assault by pointing a gun; and
discharging a firearm within the city
limits.
The
suspect was taken to the Harven A. Crouse
Detention Center under a $2,000 secured
bond. He was given a court date of Nov.
26, 2008. He has posted bond and has been
released from jail.
