DENVER -- While
authorities are calling a
Wednesday afternoon rafting
incident a "freak"
accident, the operator of a jet
ski may face charges after a wave
caught a raft two girls were
riding on, slamming the raft into
their grandfather's pontoon boat.
Bill Robbins was on
his boat, taking pictures of his
grandchildren being pulled on the
raft by a jet ski when the
incident happened.
"The operator
of the jet ski was simply trying
to get the girls close enough for
Mr. Robbins to get their
picture," said Lincoln
County Sheriff's Office lake
patrol officer Bruce White.
After the raft
slammed into the boat, the girls
were thrown into the water and
were briefly knocked unconcious.
Robbins dove into the water and
pulled his grandchildren to
safety.
Lincoln County EMS
transported the girls to the
hospital as a precaution. They
are both expected to be OK.
White said the
operator of the jet ski was
turning by the pontoon and turned
too short.
The investigation
into the incident is continuing.
North Carolina Wildlife Resources
Commission is in charge of the
investigation that is continuing
as of Thursday afternoon.
