MAIDEN - George Walter Rainey, 79, of Rainey Lane, Maiden passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Cardinal Care in Lincolnton.

Born October 9, 1929 in Barr County, GA., he was the son of the late Amos Dewey Rainey and the late Alma Huley Rainey. He was a veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Bonnie Lee Saunders Rainey, two daughters, Sandra R. Self and Vickie Rainey, grandson, Derrick Rainey, and brother, James Lindell Rainey preceded him in death.

Survivors include:

3 Sons: Mike Rainey and wife, Marsha of Maiden; Terry Holder and wife, Sandy of Mt. Dora, FL.; Tommy Holder and wife, Betty of Pinetown, NC.

6 Grandchildren: Heather Callahan and husband, Eric of Maiden; Tim Holder and wife, Susie of Denver; Chad Holder of Maiden; Nathan Self of Maiden; Greg Self of Maiden; Beverly Self of Maiden.

7 Great-Grandchildren.

4 Sisters: Hilda Black of Cherryville; Virginia Powell, Mary Frances Rainey and Edna Earl Carpenter of Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden with the Rev. Ken Faulkenbury officiating.

Burial will follow at Lawings Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 240 of Maiden.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 10, 2009 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden.

Memorials may be given to: Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
