GASTONIA The Carolina Scoop has
learned a Gastonia woman who died in a motorcycle
wreck over the weekend worked at The Brian Center
in Lincolnton.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol,
20-year-old Kalee Amber Treece of W. Fifth
Avenue, was riding with a small group of friends
Saturday south of Newton. She was a passenger on
a motorcycle operated by Andrew Marvin Norman,
20, of Cherryville.
Troopers said Newton Police tried to stop the
motorcycle for speeding because Norman was
traveling 63 in a 35 mile-per-hour zone. The bike
rounded a curve and ran off the road to the left
before hitting a hole in the ground.
Authorities said Treece was thrown from the
motorcycle, where her body struck a fencepost and
her head struck another fencepost. She was taken
to Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory where
she was pronounced dead.
Troopers said both Norman and Treece were wearing
helmets, that Treece likely died from internal
bleeding. Norman, meantime, was taken to Frye
Regional Medical Center in Hickory with injuries
to his arms and legs.
Norman may face charges in the case because he
had a motorcycle learners permit and
wasnt allowed to ride with a passenger.
Norman currently faces charges of a restriction
code violation and speeding. The NCHP will now
present its case to the Catawba County District
Attorneys office.
Treece was a nursing student at Gaston College.
