Train Wreck Kills Two in Gastonia

GASTONIA -- A train ripped through a car that was crossing the tracks Thursday in Gastonia, killing two women, authorities said.

One female occupant was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.

The other was trapped inside the vehicle and rescue workers were able to get her out by using a back board.

She was transported to the hospital later and pronounced dead.

58-year-old Mary Castro of Ranlo and her daughter, 41-year-old, Shirley Clark of York County died in the accident..

Cox Road between Court Drive and E. Ozark Avenue has been completely shut down due to the accident.
