GASTONIA Gastonia Police said
Monday it was a bad day for a 19-year-old who had
to be shocked with a taser over the weekend while
being arrested for misuse of 911.
Police say that Robbie Douglas Maney, Maxton
Avenue, Gastonia, called 911 four times on
Saturday. Gaston County Communications said two
calls were hang-ups; the third call a shooting on
Rosewood Lane; and the fourth was to report a
domestic violence incident on Esses Street.
Gastonia officers found Maney walking in the area
of Esses Street, where they said Maney was trying
to delete the 911 calls from his phone. While
officers tried to arrest Maney, he began fighting
the officers, resulting in Maney being tasered.
He was also charged for failing to appear in
court on worthless check charges. He was taken to
the Gaston County Jail under a $5,500 bond.
Maney wasnt injured.
Police officers use tasers when a suspect either
refuses to listen to commands or becomes
combative. Recently, Lincolnton Police officers
received $25,000 in tasers. Training on those
devices will be held sometime later this month
and then every LPD officer will be carrying
tasers.
