PAIN AT PUMP
EASED...FOR NOW

Remember a month ago? Motorists
in Lincoln were waiting for gas and wondering if
we would run out.

LINCOLNTON -- Drivers across
Lincoln County got an unexpected surprise at the
pumps Friday with lower gas prices. A month ago,
lines formed around Lincolnton where people were
in a panic for gas that was more than $4 per
gallon.
Sometime between Thursday night and Friday
morning, some stations -- like the BP on East
Main Street -- were selling gas below the $3 per
gallon mark, an albeit small sign that some areas
of the economy may be easing
a bit.
One motorist said he's been saving change in case
of a gas emergency.
"It's been a long time since I could pump
about three gallons for $10," said the
motorist.
Where a month ago a barrell of oil was more than
$150, this past week closed below $93 last week
and below $80 this week.
Some station owners lament, however, that a
gallon of gas needs to be lower than the $3 mark.
"By all rights, it should be about
$2.20," said a gas station operator on
Reepsville Road.
