For What It's
Worth.....
"M.
WILSON" IS WAY OFF

By
Jon Mayhew
As a
general rule, newspapers don't publish
reader's letters until the information is
confirmed. It's a way to make sure the
writier of the letter is legit and the
content of the letter original.
"M.
Wilson" is way off on her recent
letter.
In the
most glaring point of inaccuracy, she
writes:
".....I am
also appalled that the Carolina Scoop
actually published misquoted information
from the Crimestoppers organization, even
after being contacted and given the truth
'from the horses mouth'. Mr.
Mayhew was given the true quotes but
obviously printed slander anyways.....
"In fact,
at the grand opening for a new medical
facitlity,
Barry actually told Mayhew who was also
at that opening that
he thought Sheriff Daugherty and Chief
Abernathy were doing
great jobs. "
Dear
writer, you are incorrect. Barry Schrum
never said that to me before I wrote the
editorial that Schrum needs to step down
as Crimestoppers president.
He only
said that to me after he called the
newspaper to complain.
Schrum
was called on the capret because, as I
stated in an earlier editorial, he made
negative comments about law enforcement.
That wasn't the first time Schrum did
that.
At
first, Schrum said he was only kidding.
Then, he stated he never said anything
like that.
When
confronted with the truth, Barry
apologized for what he said.
I told
him that I forgave him. I also said it's
time to make a decision.
In my
opinion, Barry made a correct,
professional decision to resign his
position from the organization. His
father recently died and his attentions
are obviously turned elsewhere.
In an
email I obtained from one of my many
sources, Barry said he couldn't give the
time and attention to the organization he
once could because of his new family
responsibilities.
Kudos to
Barry for doing the right thing.
I don't
have a problem with Barry personally.
However, dear reader, you have a problem
with some of your friend's neighbors
personally. You also took it upon
yourself incorrectly to tie in this
publication with your complaint.
Then,
after it's published, you contend you
never meant for it to be published. Prior
to that, you say that "it's
refreshing" that your comments were
published.
Thank
you for being an ardent supporter of The
Carolina Scoop.
In the
Schrum case -- as in anything we do -- we
have given the readers the whole story,
fair and truthful.
And
however misguided you are, dear reader,
you have participated in helping us
achieve that goal.
Thank
you.
