Frontier Closes

Friday, July 11th. Some of the most famous advice in U.S. history — “Go West, young man,” was given on this date in 1865, in an editorial by Horace Greeley in the New York Tribune.

While Greeley is credited with popularizing the thought, the complete saying is “Go West, young man and grow up with the country,” words written 14 years earlier by John Soule in a Terre Haute, Indiana, newspaper. Today, the West is still a magnet — for men and women of all ages.

Through the year 2030, seven of the top 10 states in projected population growth will be in the West — headed by Nevada. The other three states are in the South — Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia
