Sheriff’s Detectives Offering Fraud Awareness Training

Staff Reports

LINCOLNTON -- Detective Lt. Hal Kluttz and Fraud Investigator Andrew Alvarado are offering a fraud awareness-training program for any group or organization in Lincoln County.

The program will address fraud, identity theft and many of the ways you can be scammed by the thieves. The instructors using a well-designed power point program will inform the public about the many different scams that have been found in Lincoln County.

Detective Kluttz said investigators have seen a big increase in the number of fraud cases and the goal of this program is to make the public aware of the crimes and reduce the chance of someone becoming a victim. Detective Alvarado has been assigned the duties of fraud investigator for the Sheriff’s Office. Detectives investigated more than 600 fraud cases in 2007 and are on track to equal that mark this year.

By the end of the program you will know what types of fraud and identity theft exist, how to recognize potential fraud, and know what to do if you suspect fraud.

Any groups, especially the elderly who live in rest homes and assisted living centers are vulnerable to become victims.

There is no charge for the Fraud Awareness Training Program.
If your group or organization would like to book this presentation, contact Detective Lt. Hal Kluttz at 704-736-8864 or call the Detective Division at 704-736-8856
