TRAINING FIRES DOT
LANDSCAPE SATURDAY

By Jon Mayhew

LINCOLN COUNTY -- Several fire departments will be involved in training fires Saturday, practicing to keep the communities the individual fire departments serve safe.

First, Lincolnton and Boger City Firefighters will actually be burning two homes behind Boger City Baptist Church to get further training and practice in putting out fires.

The training fires come as authorities in Central Lincoln conducted a mock tornado drill at the National Guard Armory on Maiden Highway.

"It's all designed to keep us in practice," said Lincolnton Fire Department assitant fire chief Mitch Burgin.

The Carolina Scoop learned Friday evening training fires are also scheduled in the Denver Fire Department's district, as well as the East Lincoln Fire Department district.

The training will last for several hours, usually until about 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. The training is expected to start around 7 a.m.
