MAN
ARRESTED FOR FIGHTING OFFICERS
By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON A passing
motorist tells Lincoln County
Sheriffs Deputies that a man is
slumped over the steering wheel of his
company work truck in the parking lot of
a Lincolnton restaurant. When they
investigate, the man ends up assaulting
officers before being restrained.
The incident started just before midnight
at Fatz Café on East Main Street.
According to deputy Brandon Posey, he was
at a nearby gas station when he learned
about the man.
Someone told me there was a guy
sleeping in his truck, since Posey.
Since I was at the Salem Church
Road area, I decided to
investigate.
When Posey arrived at the scene
with assistance from deputy John Brown
they approached the pickup where
Thomas Wilson was in the drivers
seat.
It took about five minutes for us
to wake him up, said Posey.
After waking the suspect, Wilson said he
wasnt going to get out of his truck
without a fight.
Wilson proceeded to kick deputies Posey
and Brown as they tried to get him out of
the pickup, which was a company vehicle
for Wilsons employer.
Within moments, Wilson lost the fight
with officers and was placed on the
ground in handcuffs. While searching
Wilson, deputies found marijuana in his
possession, as well as a dog in the
pickup.
Lincoln EMS was called and determined
Wilson suffered cuts and abrasions as a
result of fighting officers. The dog,
meantime, was taken into custody by
Lincoln County Animal Control.
Wilson was taken to the Harven A. Crouse
Detention Center on charges of resisting
arrest; assaulting a law enforcement
officer and possession of marijuana. Bond
was set at $2,500 secured and
Wilsons court date is scheduled for
mid March.
None of the deputies were injured in the
scuffle with the suspect.
