DENVER
MAN DIES IN WEEKEND WRECK
By Jon Mayhew
DENVER -- Alcohol
may be a factor in a weekend accident
that killed a Denver man.
Around
11:40 p.m. Sunday night, authorities from
Denver Fire Department, Lincoln EMS, East
Lincoln Rescue, the Lincoln County
Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina
Highway Patrol were called to the 5700
block of Mundy Road off Highway 16.
Ernest
Ronald Payne Jr., 25, died after his
vehicle crossed a center line and struck
a tree. NCHP Trooper C. Kasey
investigated the incident.
Lincolnton
Police were called to an address they
believed Payne's family lived; however,
the residence was vacant.
An
unidentified passenger in Payne's vehicle
wasn't seriously injured according to the
NCHP report.
