MAN CHARGED
IN MOTORCYCLE FATALITY

LINCOLNTON
Julio Armando Sandi, 21, Grier
Street, Lincolnton, has turned himself in
less than a week to face a misdemeanor
death by vehicle charge after turning
left in front of a motorcyclist at the
intersection of Arney Street and Huss
Street.
Sandi was driving a dark colored Toyota
at the time of the accident, where he
told Sgt. Willie Vaughn he didnt
see Christopher Michael Rogers, 31, 352
Colonial Village Drive.
Rogers tried to avoid the accident even
though he struck Sandis vehicle.
Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sgt. Vaughn, Sandi turned
himself in at the Lincoln County
Magistrates Office.
He was escorted by his family and
his attorney, Todd Pomeroy, said
Vaughn.
Bond on the charge was set at $5,000
unsecured. Sandi was released from the
Magistrates Office.
The accident blocked Huss Street from
East Main Street to Green Street. The
intersection of Huss and Arney Streets
was cordoned off with yellow fire tape as
authorities investigated the accident.
Rogers funeral was Thursday in
Walhalla, South Carolina.
While the listed address was Colonial
Village Drive, Rogers obituary on
The Carolina Scoop listed the address as
Landers Church Road.
Rogers attended UNC Charlotte then served
in the Navy on the USS Cole for nine
years. He was also a Staff Sergeant in
the Air Force and proudly served his
country in Operation Desert Storm and in
Afghanistan as well.
He is survived by his parents, Jackie Ann
Atkinson Smith and Michael Phillip
Rogers; brothers Phillip Allen Rogers of
Lincolnton; Joshua Dwayne Vandiver of
Georgia; and Cecil Edward Smith III and
Christian Elliott Smith both of South
Carolina; sisters Leah Michelle Rogers of
Charlotte; Melissa Ann Parker of Georgia;
Emily Ann Smith of South Carolina; and
Martin and Cynthia Reynolds of
Lincolnton.
Also stepmother Sherry Rogers of Georgia;
stepfather Cecil Edward Smith Jr. of
South Carolina; grandpreants Jo Ann
Atkinson of South Carolina; Clarence and
Barbara Rogers of South Carolina; and
Tommy and PJ Williams of Iron Station;
and uncle and aunt Harold and Helen
Redman of Lake Norman.
