Four fire departments responded to a
Dorset Lane residence Saturday afternoon
after an explosion destroyed a mobile
home.
According to a caller into the Lincoln
County Communications Center, two propane
tanks exploded. Radio traffic indicated
the fire was threatening two nearby
homes.
Howards Creek firefighters were aided by
Lincolnton; Crouse and South Fork fire
departments in battling the blaze that
was reported around 2:38pm.

Firefighters at
the scene were told be neighbors nobody
was home at the time of the explosion.
Howards
Creek Fire Department Lt. Ben Harkey was
the first to arrive on the scene.
The mobile home was fully
engulfed, said Harkey, adding
neighbors told him nobody was home at the
time. Fire was from one end of the
structure to the other.
Harkey
added he could see smoke from the fire
department.
Authorities
said no injuries were reported in the
blaze.
The fire was under control within a
half-hour. As firefighters doused hot
spots in the destroyed structure, a
motorcycle sat parked in front of the
residence.

Authorities
said two propane tanks exploded, leading
to the fire where smoke could be seen
from miles away.
Firefighters
at the scene have called for the Lincoln
County Fire Marshals Office and a
detective with the Lincoln County
Sheriffs Office to respond to the
scene around 4pm Saturday.
Dorset Lane is off Bob Burgin Road, which
is off Highway 27 west.
