DALLAS, NC -- Paramedics
from all over the region will
converge on Gaston College's main
campus Friday starting at 9 a.m.
It's not to answer calls,
however; it's to participate in
the 18th annual State Paramedic
Championships.
Gaston College is one of five
sites statewide hosting the
preliminary competition.
Competitions will also be held at
Surry Community College,
Sandhills Community College, Wake
Tech Community College, and James
Sprunt Community College.
Lincoln County EMS training
coordinator Kim Green said two
teams from the county will
participate. One team is going to
Gaston College, while the other
is going to Surry Community
College.
"The competition involves
taking written exams," said
Green. "The other part of
the test is a practical scenario,
which we won't know what that
will be until we're at the
competition."
Competition director Michael Cobb
says that 40 teams have signed up
for the first round and a chance
to unseat defending champions
Scott Brown and Fred Lawson of
Stokes County EMS.
The championships will take place
at Emergency Medicine Today in
Greensboro on October 5.
