County does
not pursue DWI charges in disturbance
By
Jon Mayhew
It's no surprise city police are
called to a Lincolnton-area hot spot
several times per month for
disturbances; however, a surprising
fact within Officer Dan Renn's latest
report shows a Lincoln County
Sheriff's deputy encountered an
intoxicated suspect leaving the
scene, letting the suspect go.
Authorities responded to the lounge
early Wednesday morning just after
midnight. Employees told the officers
the suspect attempted to cause a
disturbance by trying to fight with a
bouncer.
The suspect was intoxicated and left
the business before the officers
arrived. However, Officer Renn's
report indicated the suspect was
stopped by a Sheriff's deputy at the
exit of the parking lot.
The deputy did not pursue DWI
charges, said Renn in his
report.
Instead, the suspect was taken to
jail on a public assist, where he was
allowed to sober up before being
released.
The Carolina Scoop is not releasing
the suspect's name because he was not
charged.
