MAN INTERFERES IN INVESTIGATION

LINCOLNTON -- A Lincolnton man is cited for interfering in a police investigation after authorities respond to reports of an overdose

The incident unfolded at a residence on Elizabeth Avenue. Officer Mike Reep responded around 8 p.m. Monday to find a female victim extremely "intoxicated" on pills.

After being questioned by Lincoln EMS, authorities learned the woman may have overdosed on morphine. While searching the residence, Derek Austin Cornelius became verbal with Reep and Sgt. Jeremy Wilson.

According to the Lincolnton Police Department incident report, the 28-year-old started following law enforcement around the residence.

Cornelius had to be restrained so officers could finish their investigation.

The search revealed several medications as well as two marijauna pipes.

Wilson cited Cornelius for resisting, obstructing and delaying an invesstigation as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released with a court date of Dec. 10.
