Lincoln County’s First Digital Newspaper

Founded April 10, 2008

Owner/Publisher Jon Mayhew

Jon Mayhew grew up listening to AM radio, wanting to be a disc-jockey at an oldies radio station. And while he got to fulfill that dream several times over, he had also wanted to one day run his own news publication.

Since 2005, Mayhew has been covering news in Lincoln County. He first started covering the eastern Lincoln County area before becoming editor of a once-printed newspaper.

In early 2008, he put a team of people together to start The Carolina Scoop. Today, the Web site get an average of 5,000 hits per day and is the only Lincoln County newspaper to publish five days per week.

Mayhew is married to Elizabeth Ross and the couple lives in Lincolnton with their two cats, Snoopy and Linus, and their hound dog, Poochie.

Mayhew covers all types of stories from government and education to politics and features. He is someone who is not afraid to tell the truth -- no matter how painful -- and to keep elected and appointed officials accountable for their actions.
