State Board of Education Releases
2007-2008 Cohort Graduation Rate
LCS Rate Higher than
the State Rate
The State Board of Education
released the 2007-2008 Cohort
Graduation Rates. This rate
includes the
percentage of students who were
in the ninth grade during the
2004-2005 school year and
graduated four years
later in June 2008. Lincoln
County's rate of79.8% exceeded
the state rate of69.9%.
Dr. J. David Martin,
Superintendent of Lincoln County
Schools states, "This is
more good news for Lincoln
County Schools; however, this is
not great news. As a school
system we need to make a
conscious effort to
determine the circumstances and
or events causing students to
drop-out of school. Some of our
students are
making a life-altering decision.
As a school system and community,
we need to step up and address
this issue."
The cohort graduation rate does
not include:
Students who take five
years to graduate from High
School
Students who leave public
high school for a GED or Adult
high school program. North
Carolina State
Policy requires those students to
be counted as dropouts.
The four-year cohort
graduation rate does not capture
students with disabilities who
complete the 12th
grade but do not qualify for a
standard diploma. Instead, they
earn a Certificate of Achievement
or
Graduation Certificate.
Below is the summary of the
graduation cohort rate for all
