County Sheriffs Office To Hold Second
Annual Citizens Police Academy
Lincolnton -- The Lincoln County
Sheriffs Office is now taking applications
for the Citizens Police Academy. The 11-week
academy will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Class dates will run from
September through November and will be held at
the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office at 700
John Howell Memorial Drive in Lincolnton.
Participants will be introduced to various
functions of the Sheriffs Office that will
include a ride-along with an officer, patrol
procedures, criminal investigations, and how the
communications center works. Students will also
go through the firearms simulator and learn how
an officer makes a split second decision on the
use of firearms.
Academy Lead Instructor 1st Sgt Erin Long has
chosen veteran officers and personnel to teach
the course. The instructors specialize in their
area of expertise. Each instructor has years of
experience and training in the subject they will
teach. The officers and personnel also bring
street experience or actual events into the
classroom.
The Sheriffs Office Citizens Academy will
be open at no cost to residents of Lincoln County
who are at least 18 years old and with no felony
convictions. Applicants will also undergo a
background check.
Applications can be picked up at the Lincoln
County Sheriffs Office located on John
Howell Memorial Drive and will be available on
line at www.lincolnsheriff.org. Applications will
be accepted through August 15, 2008.
