CHEF
BLAKE DEWEY RETURNS TO DENVER
MARKET
Chef Blake
Dewey will demonstrate new ideas
on how to prepare local foods at
the Lincoln County Farmers Market
at Denver at 9:00 a.m. on
Saturday, July 26. Blake is the
co-owner of Pomodoros
Italian American Café in
Mooresville. His two
demonstrations at the market last
year were well received. Blake
chooses most of the products he
prepares that morning at the
market. Sometimes its good
to see some fresh ideas on how to
prepare our wonderful local
foods.
The Denver market location is at
Rock Springs School on Highway
16. The market opens each
Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and stays
open until about noon or until
vendors sell out. This supply of
edibles at the market is
excellent right now after a
number of growers received
showers in the past few weeks
As Ive said before,
its a lot easier to cook
when you have an abundance of
fresh local ingredients on hand.
For instance, my lunch today
included a tomato sandwich, a
couple of ears of corn on the
cob, and a peach. The tomato,
corn, and peach were all local.
In fact, the corn came straight
out of my garden. I have to
confess I didnt bake the
bread for the sandwich.
Its easier than it has been
in years to find local food. The
Foothills Fresh website
(www.foothillsfresh.com) will
help you look for a great variety
of items in the western piedmont
and foothills of North Carolina.
If you dont have internet
access, you can get a printed
copy of the directory at the
Lincoln County Farmers Market in
either Denver or Lincolnton.
