SUSPECT ARRESTED

Ashley Neil Self
was arrested Monday afternoon, accused of
stealing checks from his former employer
in December.

LINCOLNTON --
A 29-year-old Lincolnton man is
charged with stealing checks from his
employer and cashing them.
Sgt. Willie Vaughn
identified the suspect as Ashley Neil
Self of Molly Avenue.
Vaughn said Self was
arrested without inciident Monday.
"When he saw me,
he started walking towards me," said
Vaughn. "When I asked his name, he
told me and also told me he was glad I
was there. He also said he wanted to get
(the incident) over with."
Self is accused of
taking more than 10 checks from
Milholland Automotive on East Main
Street.
Around 9:40am last
Tuesday, officer Billy Burgin responded
to the dealership, where the business
owner told police Self may have stolen
checks from the business and cashed them
at two Lincolnton-area banks.
The total value of the checks is around
$1,400.
The former employee was given a week's
notice prior to his last day of
employment, which was Dec. 20, 2008.
Self was taken to the
Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a
$35,000 secured bond and as of late
Monday night, was still in jail.
