afternoon.
LINCOLNTON
-- Two teenagers, one of them
juvenile, thought they could outrun the
long arm of the law Monday around 4:30pm.
The 18 and 15-year-old suspects soon
found with Sgt. Willie Vaughn in the
chase, it wasn't possible to escape.
The
incident unfolded when police received a
call of a breaking and entering in
progress in the 100 block of Babbs Court.
A witness told Sgt. Vaughn the suspects
were seen heading towards apartments off
Mull Road.
Vaughn
saw the two suspects while driving down
Carrie Street and, according to the old
George Jones song, "the race was
on."
When the
suspects saw Vaughn, they took off
running.
Vaughn
gave chase, keeping up with the
15-year-old suspect. Eventually, the
juvenile tired out and Vaughn was able to
apprehend the suspect.
With one
down and one to go, Vaughn continued
persuing the other suspect, identified as
Adrian Foster, 18, of Mount Vernon Road.
When
Vaughn came out in front of a residence
at 10 Chapman Street, a witness told
Vaughn that Foster was at a house next
door.
Officers
Dave Mocanu and Tony Potts responded to
Vaughn's request for backup as Vaughn
took Foster into custody.
The
juvenile suspect was released to the
custody of his mother. Charges are
pending against the 15-year-old in
juvenile court.
Foster,
meantime, was charged with two counts of
felony breaking, entering and larceny. He
was also charged with misdemeanor damage
to property and jailed under a $30,000
secured bond.
There
were a total of six suspects listed on
the reports: the residents' home that
were broken into and the landlords who
owned the property. Taken in the incident
were cash, cameras and a television set.
A total of three doors were damaged at
the residences.
