TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO WEAPON AND CHARGES

LINCOLNTON – Frank Lee Cauthen, 26, Carolina Avenue, Statesville, was initially stopped for speeding 82 in a 65 mile-per-hour zone on Highway 321 at Lincolnton Exit 24 by Lincolnton Police Canine Officer Brandon Hunsucker.

A consent search of the vehicle Cauthen was driving turned up more than eight ounces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a Glock .40 caliber handgun.

Cauthen was taken to the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center on charges of felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.

Bond for Cauthen was set at $10,000 secured. Cauthen appeared in Lincoln County District Court on the charges Thursday. He was also cited for speeding and given a court date of August 7.
