A Lynch Street man was arrested early Friday morning after he held a knife to his girlfriend’s throat.

When officers responded to the residence in the 200 block of Lynch Street, they had to call Lincoln EMS to treat suspect 20-year-old Joshua Michael Carpenter.

Police said Carpenter had blood all over himself with a gash on his head. Carpenter told officers he fell down the stairs.

The victim in the case said Carpenter choked her and held a knife to her throat. She also said the wound on Carpenter’s head came from the suspect hitting himself in the head with a vase.

Officers took Carpenter into custody and took him to the hospital. After he was released, Carpenter was taken to jail without bond on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a female.

Carpenter had his first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on Monday. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Web site, Carpenter appeared before a judge where Carpenter was released from custody.
