BPW OBSERVES NATIONAL BUSINESS WOMENS WEEK

By Jon Mayhew
LINCOLNTON -- The Business and
Professional Women's (BPW) organization of
Lincolnton is hosting a luncheon during National
Business Women's Week, a week that offers
communities, companies and organizations an
opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the
contributions of working women.
The annual NBWW starts Oct. 20 and will run
through Oct. 24.
"The week is a significant way to boserve
and raise awareness about women in business and
women-owned businesses in Lincolnton and Lincoln
County," said BPW president Rhonda Hunter,
adding the luncheon is entitled "Well
Behaved Women Never Make History -- Dare to
Change."
The luncheon will be at noon at the First Baptist
Church's Family Life Center. There is a charge of
$10 and reservations are required; however,
people can pay at the door. Space is limited to
100 people.
The luncheon is one of several activities where
the Lincoln BPW organization is involved in
Lincoln County.
"In addition to the $6750.00 in scholarships
for the Miss Lincoln County Apple Queen Pageant
we award four $1000 scholarships to a senior from
each of the four high schools in Lincoln County.
This brings our scholarships to $10,750,"
said Hunter. "In addition, this year Lincoln
BPW sponsored a $500 scholarship in honor of
Lincolnton High Schools 100th Graduating
Class."
BPW Lincoln has also purchased a wardrobe for a
clothing closet at Sunrise Resource Center and
donated business attire to help women in job
searches or interviews by providing appropriate
clothing. BPW also supplied gift bags of
toiletries to Surrender House, a womens
transitional housing facility. BPW's activities
culminated with the sponsoring and awarding of
the Annual Woman of the Year Award in 2007.
Space is limited to 100, please reserve early.
