Traffic Safety Tip for December 2008
Staff Reports
The Lincoln County
Sheriffs Office Traffic Safety/ACE
team offers this safety tip for December.
With cold weather comes the threat of
Black Ice on the roadway.
This type condition is very dangerous
because it is ice that you cannot see
since it blends in with the asphalt.
Traffic Safety Sgt. Larry Ingle said,
Should you be driving the speed
limit in a 55 mile per hour zone, hit a
patch of ice and have an accident, you
could be charged with Exceeding a Safe
Speed. He went on the say,
Exceeding the safe speed is driving
too fast for the present conditions that
may exist whether it is black ice, snow,
rain, sleet or other road
conditions.
Motorist should be aware of their
surroundings and should always reduce
speed so as to operate a motor vehicle in
a safe manner. Conviction of exceeding
the safe speed results in 2 points on
your North Carolina Drivers License
as well as a $25 fine and $120 in court
costs.
Drive with Care!
