Station Helps Process BWI/DWI Suspects Faster

DENVER – Authorities in a two-county area worked over the weekend to ensure safety both on the roads and on the water.

Catawba and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Road Patrol and Lake Patrol and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Officers combined their efforts Saturday in patrolling Lake Norman and the surrounding area.

Part of the patrolling included the appearance of trhe BAT Mobile, a customized vehicle equipped with Breathalyzer equipment, officers and magistrate’s work stations, and other equipment necessary t process Boating and Driving While Impaired suspects.

The unit was stationed at Lake Norman to reduce the time and travel for officers transporting a suspect to the breath testing facility in Lincolnton.

The joint operation led to a number of citations and warnings being issued including 8 Boating While Impaired and 3 Driving While Impaired Charges being filed. Lake Patrol officers issued 22 nighttime violations such as improper navigation lights and 76 verbal warnings.
