AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING ASSAULT CLAIM

By Jon Mayhew

Authorities are investigating a possible assault that occurred over
the weekend.

Police officer Billy Burgin responded to the Emergency Room of
Carolinas Medical Center Lincoln after a patient reported being
assaulted in the roadway of Arney Street.

“The man said he had been stabbed with a knife and a pair of
scissors,” said Burgin.

The victim told Burgin he was traveling down Arney Street
towards Hubbard Street when a silver Honda cut him off.

“The victim said he stopped his vehicle and got out,” said Burgin.
“The men in the other vehicle also stopped and got out as well.”

When the victim warned the other occupants to “watch out,”
that’s when the assault occurred according to the victim.

“He said the suspects pulled a knife, cutting the victim above the
eye,” said Burgin. “They also started stabbing him in the arm
with a pair of scissors.”

The victim began to fight back and the suspects left the scene.

According to Burgin, the victim recovered the knife and scissors
and brought them to the Emergency Room.
Officer Burgin called police detective Chuck McGinley to
investigate. As the detective was making his way to the hospital,
the victim was advised.

“The victim then told us he was leaving,” said Burgin. “Then, a
nurse told the victim he wasn’t getting any pain medications. He
became uncooperative with the investigation.”

The incident remains under investigation.
