GASTONIA
- Ara Malinda Johnson, 97, of
Gastonia, passed away Friday, June 19,
2009, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Cherokee
County, N.C., to the late John Jacob and
Cora Derreberry Stover. She was a member
of Olney Presbyterian Church in Gastonia.
Funeral services will be held Monday,
June 22, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Olney
Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike
Sears officiating. Interment will follow
at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m.
before the service Monday, June 22, 2009,
at the church.
She was a past member of the Green n
Growing Garden Club, known for her avid
love of flowers, especially proud of her
Iris and Daylilly flowers, which she
shared with others, a member of Gaston
Hobby Club, past member of the Gaston
Board of Elections, where she served as a
judge and was involved in numerous other
community activities.
In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Leon M.
Johnson, daughter, Nancy Johnson McClure,
brothers, Boyd Stover, Brack Stover,
Estelle Stover, Paul Stover, Harmon
Stover; sisters, Agnes Stover Hall and
Freda Stover Crenshaw.
She is survived by her son, Roy Dean
Johnson and wife Jerri of Gastonia;
daughter, Linda J. Hall and husband Nick
of Lincolnton; son-in-law, Bob McClure;
brothers, Neal Stover and wife Norma of
Gastonia; brother-in-law, John
"Pete" Crenshaw; sisters,
Juanita Stover Stewart, Ann Stover
Taylor; sister-in-law, Delores L. Stover
all of Gastonia; seven grandchildren,
Cathy Belik and husband Don, Jeff McClure
and fianc? Janice Bradley, Karen Crane
and husband John, Jane Smith and husband
Paul, Kerri Haynie and husband Dale,
Michael Risha, Gina Pelso and husband
Tony; 10 great grandchildren and nine
great-great-grandchildren; numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Don Belik, John
Crane, Dale Haynie, Jeff Price, Steve
Price, Ricky Phillips. Honorary
pallbearers will be Jeff McClure and Mike
Risha.
