By all accounts, there weren't any
major problems during the 2010
Lincoln County Apple Festival, where
literally thousands upon thousands of
people flocked to downtown Lincolnton
to enjoy the annual event.
Law enforcement, along with
firefighters, medic and rescue
personnel, took to the crowded
streets during the seven-hour
festival to ensure everyone had a
good time and was safe.
This year, the Lincolnton Fire
Department, along with the Police
Department, used bicycles to get
around into the tighter areas where
personnel were needed in case of
medical emergencies.
Recently, fire department chief Mike
Lee told The Carolina Scoop the
bicycles his firefighters were
certified on came as a gift.
"The Lincolnton Police
department donated the bicycles to
us," said Lee, adding the
donation didn't cost the taxpayers of
Lincolnton any money.
"About a year ago, we thought it
would be good to have a bike
team."
Lee said the bikes would be used for
other major events in Lincolnton.
Several medical calls came out as the
festival wore on, and with the
exception of the parking situation,
people gave the festival rave
reviews.
It was a lot of fun, said
one man walking past the Lincolnton
Police Department on East Main
Street.
The parking situation, however, is
something the Apple Festival
committee may have to address.
"It was horrendous," said a
law enforcement official.
