LINCOLNTON -- It certainly took a lot of work; sweat and tears, specifically. An old corner of Lincolnton that was once a filling station many years ago and since remained empty came to life last Thursday, as the new location of 36th Street Bakery and Catering.

For owners Richard "Rick" Dudley and his wife, Barbara, the work was wll worth it.

With a "1-2-3" from Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of President Ken Kindley, Rick Dudley cuts a ribbon. And an old, historic corner of downtown Lincolnton gets a new lease on life.

"A lot of work has went into this," Dudley told a standing-room-only crowd before the ribbon cutting. "And the bathrooms are located in the same place. They're different, but they're in the place where everyone remembers them."

Dudley adds he hopes the new location is what Lincolnton is looking for.

The Dudley's first location is located behind the Employment Security Commission office off North Aspen Street. According to Barbara Dudley, that is where all of 36th Street Bakery and Catering's goodies are made.

With his family by his side, 36th Street Bakery and Catering owner/executive chef Rick Dudley prepares to "officially" open his new location during a Chamber of Commerce grand opening Thursday.

The location on the corner is the retail business, according to Dudley, and her and her husband have a vision for what was once a "dead corner."

"We're hoping to eventually have live music here during the evening hours," said Barbara Dudley. "We're looking to feature local musicians."

Barbara Dudley said the addition of 36th Street Bakery and Catering to downtown Lincolnton adds to an already vibrant downtown.

"With Freedom Church and Court Street Grille already here, we're already in a vibrant area," said Dudley.
