Early Voting Ends Saturday;
City Elections Tuesday

The Carolina Scoop learned on Thursday voters who vote a straight Republican or Democratic ticket in early voting or during the elections next Tuesday will not be automatically voting for ward 3 city council candidate Jay Thomas.

Thomas is listed as “unaffiliated” on the ballot. He is running against incumbent Democrat Carroll Heavner.

Overnight, authorities investigated an incident at a western Lincoln County automated teller machine, where two suspects may have tried to break in to the machine. Now, authorities are searching for the suspects in the case.

Loveka's Story

In February 2009 a liitle girl named Loveka was brought to (Danita's Chilren/Hope for Haiti) compound by her father. Loveka's story is a perfect example of why we must urgently and quick build the Danita's Children's Hospital of Hope, and why we ask you to prayerfully consider getting involved today. Loveka is just one example of the thousands of children's lives and souls that we believe will be saved as a result of your involvement in this project.

DEA Remembers Its Fallen Heroes
Memorial Service in Kabul Honors American Servicemen, DEA Agents

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A memorial service was held today in Kabul, Afghanistan in remembrance of those DEA Special Agents and United States servicemen who were killed this week while completing a joint counternarcotics mission.  Those who conducted the memorial service include DEA Assistant Regional Director Jay Fitzpatrick, and Deputy Ambassador Francis J. Ricciardone.

Remarks by DEA Acting Administrator Michele M. Leonhart(in absentia):

“Today, we mourn the tragic loss of three DEA Special Agents:

  • Chad L. Michael was 30 years old from Quantico, VA.
  • Michael E. Weston was 37 years old from Washington, D.C.
  • Forrest N. Leamon was 37 years old from Woodbridge, VA. 

“These were not ordinary men.  In a world where “ordinary” has become acceptable, these courageous human beings made “extraordinary” contributions.

Youth Basketball Registration and Coach Recruitment

The City of Lincolnton Parks and Recreation is currently accepting youth basketball registration for the 2009-2010 Youth Basketball League. The league is for boys and girls grades 2 - 9. Interested players can register 8am - 5pm Monday – Friday at the Lentz Recreation Center at Betty G. Ross Park. Registrations (no clinic) will also be held on Saturday, November 14 & 21, and December 5; from 9am – 12pm at the Lentz Gym. Registration for the league is $30.00 per child for city residents and $45.00 for non-city residents, and will be accepted through 12:00pm Saturday, December 5th.

The Recreation department is also seeking persons interested in being volunteer coaches for the youth basketball league. Persons interested in coaching may contact the department to receive a volunteer coach’s application and to learn more about the position. For more information, please contact the Recreation Office at (704) 735-2671.

Daniels Lutheran Church plans to rededicate Honor Rolls

Daniels Lutheran Church plans to rededicate Honor Rolls for Daniels’ members who served in the US Armed Forces.  Dedication will be during 11:00 a.m. worship on Sunday, November 8 in the church sanctuary at 3290 Reepsville Road, Lincolnton.
