Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office To Hold Second Annual Citizens Police Academy

June 30, 2008

Lincolnton -- The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications for the Citizens Police Academy. The 11-week academy will be held on Tuesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Class dates will run from September through November and will be held at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 700 John Howell Memorial Drive in Lincolnton.

LINCOLNTON -- A true servant of the Lincolnton Fire Department and the City of Lincolnton is hanging up the turnout gear and boots Monday. Lincolnton Fire Chief Harvey Gates is retiring after three decades in the fire business.

Lincoln County Schools Become Tobacco Free
Beginning July 1, 2008

During the summer of 2007, the NC Department of Public Instruction passed a policy mandating all Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) to become 100% tobacco free by July 1, 2008.

To comply with this mandate, the Lincoln County Board of Education adopted a policy that prohibits the use of tobacco products by staff members or visitors on school property at any time, including non-school hours.

Denver and East Lincoln Firefighters have responded to the 7900 block of Woodhill Cove Lane to a structure fire.

THE JETSKIER HAS BEEN FOUND!
Dennis Brewner, a 25 year old white male with brown short hair, 5 FT 11 IN tall, on a blue Yamaha 3 seater jetski at Beatties Ford Access Launch is 3 hours overdue. He was intoxicated and is not familiar with the lake. He has on a plaid bathing suit. Law enforcement is requesting that East Lincoln and Denver Fire Fighters come to put a boat in the water and look for this individual.


Denver Fire Department reports a limb on a power line at 3880-201 Pleasantview. Duke Power is being called.

A tree is in the road on North Pilot Knob in front of Concrete Supply Company. Denver Fire has someone responding to the scene at this time.

There is a man walking around on River Road with a shirt on, but no pants on. Lincoln County Sheriff's Deputies are on their way.

There is a structure fire on Bluff Point Lane across from Waterside Crossing in Denver. Reports say the pool house is on fire. East Lincoln, Alexis, and Denver Fire Departments are responding.

With the recent thunderstorm, Lincoln County Communications Center is having to utilize walkie talkies because the storm has affected their Comuter Aided Dispatch System. We will have more on the storm as it becomes available.

Reports of a live power line down on Maiden Highway. Fire officials from Lincolnton and Boger City Fire Departments on the scene are waiting for Duke Power to respond.

Law Enforcement was called shortly before 1 a.m. to a fight that broke out at a block party on New Castle Drive. According to reports there are several people fighting and weapons are involved

Lake Norman Relief Program Brings 21 Children from Afghanistan to the U.S.

A touching scene as 21 children from Afghanistan landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport this morning.

The children will stay here with host families for six weeks as part of the Lake Norman Children's Relief program.

During that time they will get medical, dental and eye care and even minor surgery if needed.

East Lincoln Rescue and East Lincoln Fire Fighters have been called to new Highway 16 to reports of a vehicle accident with possible injuries.

Lincolnton Firefighters have been called to a report of power lines down in a back yard of Boulder Dr.


East Main St. at South Generals Blvd. is flooded. Water is as high as the car bumper.
AVOID THIS AREA
Parts of East Main throughout town has a lot of standing water. Use extreme caution.

A power line is sparking due to a tree falling on it at Lucky Point Road
***
A tree is down at Salem Church Road and East Main Street, blocking at least one lane of traffic.

A transformer has blown at Highay 27 West and Flay Road
***
The 1300 block of Wilma Sigmon Road is closed due to a tree down across a power line and is blocking the roadway.
