N.C. Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to be
careful as they enjoy the July 4th holiday.
Motorists who slow down and travel at posted
speeds will not only increase their chances of
arriving at their destination safely they will
also conserve fuel. Speed is the leading cause of
traffic collisions and fatalities in the state.
There will be an increased presence of Troopers
on the interstates and major four lane highways.

Lightning struck a boat at
marker 11 on Lake Norman. According to the
water-officer on the scene, there is fuel in the
water.
Boger City Firefighters
have been called to an outside fire. The caller
advised there are 12foot flames in the treeline
across from 644 Low Bridge Rd.
There is a large tree
blocking half of the roadway at 1526 Oaklin Lane.
There is a tree down in the
roadway at 3515 Brent Tr
There is a tree down in the roadway on Union
Church Road.
There is a tree across the
roadway on Shuford Road, about 200 yards off NC
150 .
Firefighters from North
Brook Fire Department have responded to an
outside fire at 1611 Northbrook School Road. law
Enforcement in the scene advise the fire is
moving rapidly. This address is the same as the
North Brook Rest Home.
Law enforcement
and Medic have been called to Bill Lynch Road.
Subjects have been fighting and at least one
person has been injured.
North Brook Fire has responded to an automobile
accident on West Highway 27. Med Center Air has
been placed on standby. The status of injuiries
is unknown at this time.

channel marker 8 has caught fire and is taking on
water at this time. Denver Fire Department is

- A car has overturned in a ditch in the 1500

DENVER
-- Three Lincoln County teenagers were
charged with breaking into the Westport Golf Club
Community Building and causing thousands of
dollars worth of damage.
Detective 1st Sgt. Lee Keller said employees
heard the sound of breaking glass at the
Community Building Tuesday night and went to
investigate. They observed three teenagers
running from the scene and detained one teenager
while the others ran away.

are looking for a white Ford Mustang in
connection with an afternoon traffic accident
involving a fire hydrant. After noon, authorities
were callled to the Highway 150 bypass and
Gastonia Highway to reports a car had struck the
hydrant. The car left the scene, and authorities
say it has front-end damage.

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT VOLUNTEERS AND TEACHERS
July 4, 2008
On Thursday, May 29th local 3rd grade teachers,
volunteers, and JA board members gathered
together to celebrate the success of the JA
program in Lincoln County. In the 2007-2008
school year, volunteers from the Lincoln County
business community presented a five week JA
program in every 3rd grade classroom in Lincoln
County Public Schools, reaching more than 800
students. The recognition event took place at
Court Street Grille in Lincolnton.
Junior Achievement partners with many local
businesses in Lincoln County. These local
businesses provide JA volunteers, as well as
financial and in-kind support for JAs
mission.

HUNTERSVILLE -- Everyone is talking
about the LaughMS event held April 24th at The
Comedy Zone-Lake Norman, Galway Hooker. The event
was formed by two couples with a personal
relationship to multiple sclerosis. They are
pleased to announce the donation of approximately
$5,750 to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the
National Multiple Sclerosis Society from the help
and sponsorship of many local businesses, as well
as those attending the show.
The first annual LaughMS was held to engage the
Lake Norman community in raising awareness around
finding a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS). The
organizers found a way to bring people together,
raise money to donate to their local chapter and
have a good time while doing it.

HICKORY, N.C. -- Police have arrested a woman who reported that a bag of kittens had been thrown onto the highway nearly three weeks ago.
Hickory police charged Nikki Bradshaw with one count of resisting and delaying a police investigation, one count of filing a false police report and three counts of animal cruelty on Wednesday afternoon.

Ages. Founded in El Paso, Texas, in 1983, amtgard
currently has an overall membership of more than
24,000 people, with about 10,000 active members
worldwide. Mainly, groups gathering in what are
known as "parks" are found where active
military bases are located, including in
Afghanistan and Iraq.

Western Lincoln County. Around 9 a.m., Lincoln
County Sheriff's Deputy D.R. Long was serving an

A motorcycle and a car
have collided in the area of Reepsville and
Plateau Roads. One person is injured. At this
time injuries do not appear to be life
threatening.
Lincolnton Police responded to an alarm on Laurel
St. The Canine Unit was also called out.
A car has run off of the road on Highway 150 near
Shuford Road. No injuries have been reported.
Police were called to Norman Fair Rd. around
midnight. The caller stated the front door was
standing open upon arriving home.
