FALL
VEGETABLE GARDENS
Many
vegetables are well adapted to
planting in the summer for fall
harvest. Planting a fall garden
will extend the gardening season
so you can continue to harvest
fresh produce after earlier crops
have finished.
Many cool-season vegetables, such
as broccoli, produce their best
flavor and quality when they
mature during cool weather. In
North Carolina, the spring
temperatures often heat up
quickly. Vegetables, such as
lettuce and spinach, tend to bolt
or develop bitter flavor when
they mature during hot summer
weather.

FBI
Warns of Storm Worm Virus
The FBI and
its partner, the Internet Crime
Complaint Center (IC3), have
received reports of recent spam
e-mails spreading the Storm Worm
malicious software, known as
malware. These e-mails, which
contain the phrase F.B.I.

recipients to click on a link to
view an article about the FBI and
Facebook, a popular social
networking website. The Storm
Worm virus has also been spread
in the past in e-mails

causing it to become infected

catapulting the 20-ton vehicle

"A staff sergeant, two

CHILDREN'S EYE
SAFETY
Eye injuries are the leading
cause of blindness in children in
the United States, and most
injuries occurring in school-aged children are
sports-related. These injuries
account for an estimated 100,000
physician visits per year at a
cost of more than $175 million.
All children who play sports
should use protective eyewear.
Protective eyewear is made of
ultra-strong polycarbonate, which
is 10 times more impact resistant
than other plastics. This
material does not reduce vision.
Student athletes who have vision
in only one eye or a history of
eye injury or eye surgery should
especially use protective
eyewear.

Wheelchair
Games Provide Therapy, Fun for
Disabled Vets
By Donna Miles
American Forces Press Service
OMAHA, Neb. - About
500 disabled veterans, including
recently wounded warriors from
Iraq and Afghanistan, had their
final day of competition on July
29 at the 28th National Veterans
Wheelchair Games.
The event is the worlds
largest annual wheelchair sports
competition. It brings together
veterans with spinal cord
injuries, amputations or other
mobility or neurological
conditions to compete in 17
different events.
Veterans Affairs Secretary James
B. Peake, who opened the competition
July 25, called it a big part of
the veterans rehabilitation
and said the games provide
a therapeutic
extension of the top-notch
health care veterans receive in
VA medical centers.
"Rehabilitation is crucial
to living a full life following
an injury, Peake said.
I applaud all of the
veterans participating as they
strive to achieve their goals
during this week of athletic
competition.
Competition was running fierce
during the third day of
competition Monday, July 28, with
participants fanned out to venues
across Omaha to compete in
swimming,
