Do you struggle with aching
joints caused by arthritis? If you do, you
arent the only one. Arthritis affects one
out of every five American adults.
Among the best things you
can do for your arthritis is to keep your joints
moving, because physical activity can preserve

Lincoln County Schools Release ABC Results
Results Mark a Successful Year
Lincoln County Schools
released the 2007-2008 North Carolina ABC results
today. Dr. David Martin, Superintendent of
Lincoln County Schools states, The ABC
results indicate that Lincoln County Schools are
on a path of continuous improvement. The results
are indicative of the commitment by students,
teachers, and parents to do whatever it takes to
assist students to grow academically. I am proud
of our results; however, we have more work to
do.
The North Carolina ABC plan was developed by the
North Carolina Board of Education to allow public
schools to focus more on basic skills, higher
accountability and more local control over
educational decisions. ABC scores are based on
individual schools. The North Carolina ABC
accountability model measures school achievement
in three ways to determine schools success
over time:
1. Percent of students test scores at or
above the proficient level (Performance
Composite)
2. Academic Growth (High or Expected)
3. Adequate Yearly Progress

Summer is an exciting time for kidswhat are
your childs plans? Will he or she be
spending time home alone? Going to local parks
and pools with friends? Attending a sleep-away
camp?
NCMEC recommends that parents and guardians
consider childrens summer activities, both
structured and unstructured, and take responsible
actions to keep them safer. The first step is to
open the lines of communication.
Kids need to know:
Neighborhood boundaries and whose homes they may
visit.
Who to call and where to go in an emergency.
Their full names, address, and telephone
number(s).
To keep doors locked and not open the door if
they are home alone.
Not to approach a vehicle or accept a ride from
anyone without your permission.
To avoid pools and other bodies of water without
adult supervision.
Their curfew, and to call you if they will be
late.
Other important reminders for parents:
Supervise children at malls, movies, arcades, or
parks.
Choose and screen babysitters with care.
Before enrolling your children, investigate
daycares, camps, and summer programs thoroughly.
Always listen to your children

Woodland Owners Have New Opportunities With
Emerging Biomass
Energy Markets
RALEIGH -- With demand for fuel
wood rising as the biomass energy market expands,
North Carolinas family woodland owners
are well-placed to enhance their assets, reduce
overhead and maybe even turn a profit. To educate
landowners, N.C.
Cooperative Extension is holding free dinner
program across the state in September.
Co-sponsors include the states
Division of Forest Resources and the U.S. Forest
Service.
Every woodland produces so-called trash
trees tree species that are not in
high demand for construction or furniture
markets.
But rising needs for wood-fueled energy by
utilities and manufacturers, and the increase in
facilities that use wood for heat,
have increased the value of the trees.
